Dolls for Friends

In November of 2007 we started in on a project that we had long dreamed of doing: making custom, plush dolls for sale. We've been long time fans of so much of the wonderful plush work being created by artists all around the world, and felt that we had something to contribute to this diverse area.

Instead of jumping in and trying to pursue a route of mass marketing like so many other companies, we decided to go with a more unique approach of doing one of a kind, custom pieces. These pieces were then sent to inspirational individuals within different areas of media and design as gifts, and to raise awareness of the project and our little studio. Each doll is sent out with a card explaining who we are and the simple term, “You've been gifted” as a way of letting those individuals know that they have inspired us in our lives.

The response received so far has been wonderful, and we're currently getting ready to enter into another year of production of our little friends. Individuals who have received the dolls have given us some wonderful press, and props well beyond what we deserve. They continue to inspire us, and we thank them for it.

In December we extended our little project to include developing custom and small run pieces for art shows while marketing and selling our work via the handmade / fine art community. We've done several shows thus far and have been wonderfully received by the arts community and press.

2008 plans to be just as exciting for our little venture. We're currently booking sale dates for the year and looking towards setting up a themed gallery show. We will also be colloaborating with several artists this year in an effort to cross promote DFF to a wider audience.

Our work can be seen on the Dolls for Friends website, or on our Etsy store.
