We've been very fortunate to have done the fox trot with some wonderful organizations over the years.

Final Output

Print Design (8.5x11 Bi-fold Brochure)

Project Brief

At the end of each Summer, the Portland Public School district publishes a newsletter that contains important information for parents and families as they get ready to begin their school year.

The brief called for a bi-fold, letter size brochure that would contain a message from the Superintendent, recent district happenings and a section outlining recent facts and figures. The piece also had to have information printed in four additional languages to service non-English speaking families. The piece would then be printed and mailed to every home in the disctrict.

Solution

Due to the large numbers of homes the piece would be mailed to, it was decided that the final output should be in black and white to keep printing costs low. All body copy was provided at the outset of the job, so the main work came in designing a template that could house the large amount of copy that needed to be provided to parents.

A flexible, two column grid was developed for use on the entire piece. Certain sections were given a two column spread, while others were adjusted to accomodate a wider, single column width depending on the importance of information. Basic navigational elements were added to lead the reader through the four page brochure. Each page was given a header bar that described the page content contained on each page.
